We serve organizations of all sizes, from
single-owner start-ups to the international sales division of
Bayer Biological Products, whose affiliates-only web site we created and
currently maintain. Each of our clients, no matter the size, can
expect the same high quality of service our largest clients
demand.
Design, Renovation, and Consultation
Since 1999, Saltmeadow Editorial and Design has been creating
or improving small-business sites and departmental sites for big
business. Our services range from site analysis to visual design
to architectural and special-function implementation.
Maintenance
We recommend monthly maintenance only for clients who realize
a cost benefit from the arrangement. Whenever we design or
renovate a site, we provide, on request, web-based or
desk-based software and instructions that enable our customers
to maintain their sites themselves. Consequently, our maintenance
customers are few and loyal. We provide the same high standard of
maintenance for small sites that we give large multi-national
concerns.
Special Rates for Special Causes
Each year we choose one or two organizations that demonstrate
a need and are working to better their community or make the
world a kinder place. We then provide those organizations with
web sites at little or no cost. (See our Worthy
Effort Program.) In the past five years, in addition to our
standard work, we have enrolled in the United Nations corps of online volunteers and NetAid. Locally, we have provided fully functioning sites, created
at costs ranging from zero to less than one-quarter our usual
prices, to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater
Bridgeport, the Milford Junior Chamber, the Bridgeport Hospital
School of Nursing, and the Branford Department of Planning and
Zoning. In addition, we have provided free hosting to the local
Scouting troop, which has been working to provide a place where
all boys are accepted and feel comfortable. If you believe
your organization merits special consideration,
What our clients are saying
The First Presbyterian Church of
Greenwich,
located in Connecticut's Fairfield County,
serves a congregation of more than 900 and spends one quarter of
its yearly income on charitable work in area communities and the
inner cities of Bridgeport and New York City. Their two-part site
represents both the church and its non-sectarian nursery school.
Church members and staff had been trying for a long time to find
ways of publishing frequently updated information online. In less
than a month, at our special non-profit rate, Saltmeadow
completely renovated the FPCG site and put procedures in place
whereby church personnel can easily — and by themselves
— update their daily calendar, weekly newsletter, and
extensive sermon audio archive. Saltmeadow also found a new host
to handle the sermon archive's large server demands at a
substantial savings to the church.
We tried for two years to get
our site to do what we wanted. We called in Saltmeadow, and they
had it working right in three weeks. I showed the Stamford
Advocate and Greenwich Times the result; they were so impressed
they featured our site in their e-business sections.
Town of Branford Planning and Zoning,
in Connecticut's New Haven County, wanted a site that would enable their
staff to update public notices and minutes on demand. Saltmeadow
agreed, as a public-service demonstration, to set up a site just
large enough to do the job they needed done. We used our
inexpensive personalized template system to build a no-frills
starter site for the department in less than two days. Now town
staff can update their minutes, agendas, meeting notices, legal
notices, proposal requests, and requests for bids and see them
online the same day.
All we had access to was a site
where we had to wait weeks and months to see our changes
published online. So, we never could put time-sensitive
information on the Web, and the public had to call or visit us to
find out about upcoming meetings or recent decisions. Saltmeadow
built us a site in no time that does just what we want it to do.
Now the citizens we serve can get the latest information with
just a click.
Greene Bark Press, Inc.,
publisher of books for children and young adults,
had a site that did not seem to be attracting any customers. The
company requested a site analysis. Armed with our results, they
opted immediately for a site speed-up, leaving more inclusive
renovations for later. In one day, Saltmeadow inexpensively
reduced load times on all pages by 88 to 94 percent, and Greene
Bark Press began taking orders online. Site owner Thomas J.
Greene then opted for a complete site renovation by Saltmeadow.
In its first few months, the
enhanced site has already increased orders 12-fold. I just
recently received an order for 200 CD-ROMs from a retailer in
Hong Kong who saw the new site. And finally, on Sunday I was
invited to participate on a local talk radio show after the
commentator came across my site. So your work is definitely
generating results. Thank you.
Swiftwater Media,
a start-up company in North Carolina, needed an inexpensive place to showcase
and market its latest videos and associated books on living a
fuller life. Saltmeadow built a small, no-frills site that offers
Swiftwater Media to an international audience — and lets
customers sample before they buy.
Saltmeadow took my ideas for a
web site and turned them into a working store. They made it easy.
I'm selling my newest video, Discover Yourself With the
Enneagram, to people as far away as Singapore now.
The Unitarian Universalist Church
of Greater Bridgeport has been serving Connecticut's lower
Housatonic River region since 1841. Among its earliest pastors
was Olympia Brown, activist for equal rights and the first woman
in the United States to receive full ordination in any major
denomination. Among its earliest
parishioners was showman and staunch abolitionist P.T. Barnum.
The church continues its tradition of non-discrimination to this
day by openly welcoming all, regardless of race, gender, national
origin, or sexual orientation. Today nearly 100 children attend
its comparative religion classes each Sunday, while its
congregation supports and participates in a wide range of
community outreach programs. As part of our Worthy Effort program, Saltmeadow created
the site and hosted it free for its first two years. An
abbreviated version has now been wholly member-maintained
since December of 2000.
Under Saltmeadow's guidance,
this site has been ranked among the top five Connecticut
Unitarian and Universalist sites on the major search engines; was
the first, and for a long time only, UU church site in
Connecticut to be reviewed and recommended by Netscape Search ...
and has been visited by thousands. ... Each month, we hear from
people who found us via this site and want to learn more about
what we have to offer. And Saltmeadow honored its offer to train,
for free, any church member interested in learning how to write
for the Web and maintain a web site.
Each year, Saltmeadow supports the efforts of
an organization our members feel is making a welcome contribution
to society. We do this by providing development or renovation
services at rates well below our special non-profit rates. (We
give low- or no-cost maintenance to such sites during their first
year. During that time, we work with members, if they desire, to
make self-maintenance easy thereafter.)
Following is an example from our Worthy Effort Program:
The Bridgeport Hospital School of
Nursing has been educating medical-care specialists
since 1878 and is justly proud of its tradition of excellence. The
school prepares its students for roles as registered nurses,
surgical technologists, and perioperative nurses. It is one of
the few schools in the nation to offer a two-year diploma in
nursing based in a clinical setting. BHSN graduates are eligible
to enter baccalaureate nursing programs with sixty transferable
credits. After hearing that Bridgeport Hospital and BHSN were in
the midst of offering a tuition forgiveness program to attract
inner-city candidates to the profession of nursing, Saltmeadow
implemented an enlarged site including online admissions forms,
maintained the site at a reduced rate for two years, and hosted
it free of charge during its first year. Within one year of
the site’s launch, BHSN full-pay student applications per
week had more than tripled!
Saltmeadow created a
user-friendly and exciting web site for our school simply from
our printed material. The web site has allowed our school to
reach potential students from across the country rather than just
locally. Interest in our school has increased threefold since the
creation of our web site. Saltmeadow could not have made it
easier for us to transition our recruitment and advertising
efforts onto the Internet.
